Child Welfare Reform is a situation that needs to be addressed aggressively by our legislators. As a candidate for Governor, it is the responsibility of myself to present to the people my standings and ideas on all issues, especially one of such magnitude as this is. Not only are the in place laws unconstitutional, they are malicious in nature, do not allow for accountability, are set up for the punishment of parents and not for the protection of children.

I believe that some sort of program is necessary for the protection of the truly violated children who are present in our state, however, it should not come at the expense of perfectly normal and capable families. A disgruntled society is beginning to form together amongst the population in order to bring these situations to light and make attempts at true reform.

As Governor, I would lead this issue to the table for legislators to prompt the changes needed for reform. I have written a Bill which I would immediately present to the Indiana House for consideration and would consistently hound these legislators until this Bill has been passed.

The overstepping of powers that be in their current form would immediately cease and implementation of an accountability law would be in place.

Key Benefits

  • Innocent families would no longer be at the mercy of a powerful state agency which has no right to be involved in their lives. The fear factor would be diminished, if not abolished.
  • Accountability would be implemented to control the workings of said agency.
  • Funding would be redirected to the use of education of families, rather than the punishment of parents and removal of children.

Capabilities

Capability 1
The Governor has the ability to implement overseeing committees to study and investigate the agencies. This would allow reports to be made directly to the Governor and plans of actions to solve the issues in immediate need to be created.
Capability 2
As the Governor, the power to present reform laws such as the NJS Child Welfare Bill would immediately be capable and put into effect for legislation. The Governor can also provide immediate and intelligent lobbying for the passing of such laws, as well as the veto of those laws which affect adversely the families of Indiana.
Capability 3
Abolishment of immunity and implementation of accountability within the systems would be another power the Governor has at his direct use. Investigations can be ordered immediately with no other necessary involvement than that of the Governor's order.
